Poetry Returns to Rissho Kosei-Kai on Saturday, February 21st at 6pm
Come be inspired by three of America's top Japanese-American poets. Everyone is welcome.
Hosted by Los Angeles longtime poet Mike Sonksen, a member of Rissho Kosei-kai of Los Angeles Buddhist Center
Rissho Kosei-Kai’s resident poet Mike “the Poet” Sonksen has been hosting poetry events in our sanctuary since 2018. Join us for our first Poetry event in 2026. The reading coincides with 2026’s Los Angeles Day of Remembrance held on February 21 to commemorate the Feb. 19, 1942, signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII In order to honor this Japanese American history, we will feature three poets that are direct descendants of folks incarcerated.
At 6pm on February 21st, we will feature the award-winning Japanese American poets:
