RKLA Membership Is Your Spiritual Gift To Yourself
If you are interested in practicing Buddhism with us, how about doing something new in the beginning of this year to make your 2026 special and meaningful? Buddhism teaches that emotional pain and suffering are universally inescapable. If that's true, what's the best way to relate to this unhappy truth? The answer is simple:
Discover that you are never alone in your suffering. In our community, we create safe space to talk about your stories, listen to and support each other. This is among the top reasons 42 people became a member of our community last year. You may wonder: "What does our membership require?"
There is no required commitment other than $3 membership fee per month (you can add donation if you would like) and feeling joy and being proud of becoming a part of our dharma family. Members and teachers of RKLA supports your spiritual journey through learning Buddhist teachings and sharing stories of Buddhist practice. Membership means to give this invaluable gift to yourself. We provide a wide range of programs dedicated to practice. Membership includes numerous benefits for deeper practice and engagement.
Membership Information & Suggested Donation Structures
Donation is a Practice of "Letting Go"
Without the expectation of getting anything in return, you train the mind to be selfless for the benefit of others and you help RKLA to expand its events and classes and to spread the dharma to end suffering.
In Buddhism, donation has a spiritual significance that generates blessings for both donors and the receiver of your donation when the intention of the donor is pure heart of care, gratitude or joy.
Money is essential for sustaining our everyday lives. Donating it is a selfless act of letting go. Moreover, through sincere, continuous giving without expectation, something wondrous unfolds: life’s difficulties begin to take care of themselves. Yes, this may sound counter-intuitive. But this is how the Wondrous Dharma of the Lotus Sutra expresses itself, and I sincerely hope you will experience this marvelous feeling of being guided by the Dharma with us. This spirit is why many members choose to donate on a monthly basis—$5, $25, $500, $1,000 or sometimes $10,000 or more. (But, the most important thing is not the amount. Rather it is your caring heart and selfless practice.)
RKLA is sustained by "members" and "nonmembers" donations. Monthly donations help RKLA to spread the dharma, help with operating costs and maintenance of the building. You can offer material support, time, energy, or any other resources for the benefit of others.

Donations are accepted at RKLA, via PayPal and through monthly direct transfer via automatic payment. We encourage automatic payments as this is the easiest method of donating and helps to maintain consistency each month.
We understand that each individual and family has different income and expense levels.

Sustaining
Sustaining members make a substantial financial commitment to RKLA

Supporting
$100/month; $150/family
Practicing
$50/month; $75/family
Affiliate
Affiliate members are unable to visit the Center often due to distance or schedules.

Corresponding
Corresponding members maintain a connection with the Center, but are unable to come often.

Membership Benefits
Have a place for consistent practice by creating an altar in your home, attending online and in person Sunday Service, as well as numerous Buddhist and Japanese ceremonies throughout the year. . We offer a weekday and weekend schedule of zazen and service,
Participate in private interviews with the Reverend.
Have access to an assigned experienced practitioner for guidance at the beginning of your membership.
Enjoy RKLA library privileges.

RKLA Membership ($3/month + Donation)
We encourage you to become a member of RKLA. Once you become a member, RKLA will schedule a date to perform a home blessing and alter. Attendance at all events and services are always open to new comers before becoming a member. However, membership initiates your commitment to follow a Buddhist path and practice. Volunteer
Volunteering at RKLA is another way to practice generosity. We are member operated and our members contribute to conducting ceremonies, cooking, working in the garden and doing maintenance as a part of their donations. We also need help with our marketing efforts and for conducting classes. There are many opportunities to volunteer! We encourage you to provide your skill and expertise as a way to practice and give back.

Rental
RKLA has ample event space and is available for weddings, rehearsal space for clubs and organizations, and has 100 parkings spaces that can be used for free with rental. Additionally, parking space is available for rent to companies, schools, and organizations that need additional parking Monday-Saturday.
