Join the upcoming session: November 9th, Saturday 1-3PM.

On October 20, Sunday, we started the first session of the Lotus Sutra Study class, where we read and discussed the first chapter of the opening part of the Threefold Lotus Sutra, called the Sutra of Innumerable Meanings (SIM).

In the first session, we read:

  • Threefold Lotus Sutra p.3-11

Recommended reading to deepen your learning:

  • Buddhism for Today by Nikkyo Niwano, p.37-42

Here is a part of what we learned:

Q. Why does the audience of the Buddha's assembly include a diversity of humans and even gods from other religion (from pre-Buddhist India)?

A. To show the unity in the diversity of life. To make Dharma for everyone.

Q. Why does the SIM's first chapter extensively praise the virtue of Shakyamuni Buddha?

A. Check out the video by Reverened Kyohei here.
